You will be forgiven for thinking that ‘A Wee Pinch of Sugar’ is a blog about sweet things. I decided to use that title as it’s usually what my mother says and adds after tasting food, only a pinch, never a spoonful.
The blog is mainly about real connections to food, particularly Scottish food, fresh, seasonal, local produce and supporting fantastic small independent food producers.
We are fortunate that Scotland has a rich natural larder, full of fantastic food, beef, lamb, pork, poultry and game, fish and shellfish, much of which is produced by small local farmers and food producers who care passionately about animal welfare and provenance.
I’m a great believer in ‘Let food be thy medicine’ (Hippocrates). Food nurtures and comforts, it’s sociable and even the most simple meal with family or friends can bring enormous pleasure. Food brings us together in many different ways.
My blog is my way of sharing these food stories and recipes with you. I’m a self taught home cook and I reckon I’ve been cooking for over 40 years. With a very hungry household to be fed, I can usually be found in the kitchen and one of my greatest pleasures is sitting at the table sharing a meal with my family. I’m also fortunate that my boys have grown up with an interest in food and now both of them and of course not forgetting their dad, are all good cooks.
I find it sad and frustrating that so many people have lost the connection to real food, some have no interest in cooking but more worrying is the number who have absolutely no idea how to cook with fresh food. The recipes on the blog are what I feed my family, good wholesome cooking using the freshest ingredients possible. I hope the blog inspires you to cook, maybe even learn to cook because remember , ‘you are what you eat’
